Ever since TikTok added dark mode support in fall 2019, it's become a favorite amongst some TikTokers. And as they post screenshots from their app with a dark or black screen background, it gets people asking the question: how do you get dark mode on TikTok?
The answer is simultaneously simple and complicated.
TikTok's dark mode support is not something you can turn on from the app. Instead, it's tied directly to the light or dark status of your iPhone. If you have dark mode turned on for your phone, then TikTok will go dark, too.
However, that doesn't seem to be the case for all users. It seems like dark mode simply doesn't work for some TikTokers, and nobody has shared a fix thus far. See a sample of frustrated TikTok users sharing their struggles with dark mode on Twitter:

Make sure your TikTok app is updated to the latest version – but even if it is, dark mode still doesn't seem to always work.
